Fun with Copper, Part 1

I have been playing with copper wire a lot lately. This piece was started a while back, but abandoned because I made it too big for me...a bit of a learning curve :)  I picked it back up though this week, as I am prone to do when bored with other things I should be working on and finished it regardless.

Having done a few of these swirly rings, I decided it would fun to translate the idea to a bangle, however, the lack of a bracelet mandrel threw a wrench in my plans a bit.  Using a pvc joint from the hardware store, I set out to create my vision, albeit a bit bigger than I planned.  I improvised a weave to hold the strands of 16 gauge wire together and make them a bit stronger, then oxidized and tumbled.

I like the outcome, and I think I will try again, as soon as I get something a bit smaller to use as a mandrel...maybe I will even purchase the real thing!

Stay tuned for more fun with copper, when we return. :)

  2. WOW, Melissa, this is a knock-out bangle bracelet!!!! It is just gorgeous. I think we are on the same wavelength... this weekend I made one of those swirly rings with my son for the first time. He's been asking me to teach him how to make a ring (and I've never made rings!). And coincidentally I've been in the market for a bracelet mandrel too...
