Art Jewelry Elements - Art Headpin Challenge

Hello all...hopefully I haven't been gone so long that you have totally forgotten me!  It has been about a year since I have blogged, and even then I wasn't doing it more than once a month or so. As some of you know, I left the wonderful Art Jewelry Elements blog about a year ago due to some challenges in my personal life. Not only did I stop blogging, but pretty much stopped creating during that time, aside from a few sporadic spurts here and there.  Sometimes I feel like my previous creative spark is gone forever.  I hope not!  I know I need to put myself out there again and keep trying.  That is why I decided to join the latest AJE challenge...Art Headpins!

I love art headpins!  They are fun and versatile, not to mention gorgeous!  I stuck with earrings on this challenge, mostly because all the headpins I have to work with came in pairs!  I created three pair!

Earrings created with Art Headpins, left to right: my polymer clay headpins; lampwork pins by Jennifer Cameron; lampwork headpins by Sue Kennedy

My first thought was to use a pair of polymer clay ones I had in my shop.  They are the perfect color scheme for end of summer moving into autumn!

I really like that the reverse is a different design. I added a lot of Czech glass embellishments, including my favorite flower beads.

My second pair features some gorgeous lampwork headpins by Sue Kennedy. I love Sue's "drippy" headpins!  These autumn shades of burgundy and gold spoke to me!

Again, I stuck with Czech glass...some flower caps and golden flowers.  I worried about the mono-chrome of these, but I think they work!

Last, but definitely not least is a gorgeous pair by Jen Cameron.  The challenge with these headpins she creates from murrini is that they need to be used so that you can look at them head on!

I kept these really simple and layered them onto an etched copper circle and an enameled 3-petal component in a gorgeous teal blue shade.  These will stay home with me ;).

So, thanks for stopping by!  Hopefully, this little foray back into the creative challenge world will kick-start me and I won't be away as long next time!

Here are the other participants in the Art Headpin Challenge. Please go visit their blogs and see their gorgeous creations!

  8. Awesome earrings! I never know what to with headpins other than a basic wrapped loop. The wire weave on the pair with your pc headpins is fabulous. The monochromatic pair definitely work for me. And you came up with a great way to showcase the centers of Jen's beads.

  9. I'm so glad you joined us Melissa - there really is nothing like AJE to spur creativity. I was just thinking about you the other day, because the last time I used any artisan headpins was your COM with the pair of copper components...full circle, eh? I hope you'll join in on our next group challenge!
