Focusing on Life~52 Photos...Week 1, Self Portrait
I jumped in at the last minute and joined Sally Russick's 2013 challenge...Focusing on Life 52 photos. Each week she will send an email prompt with a specific topic or theme for the week's photo. Week 1 was a self portrait. Yikes...I join the numerous ranks of women who really hate having their photo taken. Like many others, I can't seem to look at my reflection without listing all the things I hate about the way I look. Whenever hubby takes photos of me and the boy, I always have final say in any that are emailed out! It took about 20 or more shots to get the one I use on my blog and that I include with bios!
I actually put the task at the back of my mind, then late on Saturday, remembered, pulled out my phone and took an Instagram shot. I decided to go partial face, and used a filter to add a grainy, newsprint look.
Oh, well...maybe if I force myself to do this more, it won't be so painful!! Thanks, Sally!

Great shot! I noticed that a lot of the participants took close up photos that mainly showed their eyes. Perhaps it is because as artists, we are visual people. We see the beauty in things with a different view/perspective.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your images over the next 51 weeks!
So many of us feel the same way about having our photo taken. Your photo is wonderful! I'm glad you signed up for this challenge and look forward to seeing your photos in the coming weeks.
ReplyDeleteI hear you LOUD AND CLEAR!!! I covered my mouth in my shot, because I bumped my chin and have a huge red mark on my face (excuses....excuses!). Way to go, Melissa!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the filter. It does look like something from an old newspaper. I really like that your eyes draw me into the photo. It's a wonderful picture.
ReplyDeleteAw, Melissa, you are beautiful. And I have quite a few pictures of you to prove that you ARE photogenic! I do like your creative photo - a very cool texture you used there!

This is so great. I love your warm eyes and the cool shape of your glasses. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many I took before settling on the one I posted. Seems when I tried to look serious I looked angry and when I tried to force a smile I looked crazed, it's so much easier to be caught unawares in a photo than to stage one! You did good with this and the post processing. Hope you continue the 52 week challenge.
